Fieldwork: The Arctic excavation season is quite short, especially in the High Arctic. By the beginning of August daytime thawing has almost ceased at the latitude of Devon Island (76 degrees North) so deep excavation becomes very difficult and bad weather can delay the arrival of the plane that will pick us up.
