Fieldwork: Foot survey—When helicopters are not available or when we are searching for older sites (which are often invisible from the air), backpacking is the best option. If one is doing a major survey this way, a helicopter will be used beforehand to set out caches of supplies along the route we plan to follow, so that we don't have to carry absolutely everything all the way.
